سَاَلَ سَآئِلُ بِعَذَاب وَاقِع

Saala sailun biAAathabin waqiAAin

A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen

لِّلکَفِرِینَ لَیسَ لَهُ دَافِعٞ

Lilkafireena laysa lahu dafiAAun

To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer

مِّنَ اللَّهِ ذِی المَعَارِجِ

Mina Allahi thee almaAAariji

[It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent

تَعرُجُ المَلَٓئِکَۃُ وَالرُّوحُ اِلَیهِ فِی یَوم کَانَ مِقدَارُهُ خَمسِینَ اَلفَ سَنَۃ

TaAAruju almalaikatu waalrroohu ilayhi fee yawmin kana miqdaruhu khamseena alfa sanatin

The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years

فَاصبِر صَبرا جَمِیلًا

Faisbir sabran jameelan

So be patient with gracious patience

اِنَّهُم یَرَونَهُ بَعِیدا

Innahum yarawnahu baAAeedan

Indeed, they see it [as] distant

وَنَرَیهُ قَرِیبا

Wanarahu qareeban

But We see it [as] near

یَومَ تَکُونُ السَّمَآءُ کَالمُهلِ

Yawma takoonu alssamao kaalmuhli

On the Day the sky will be like murky oil

وَتَکُونُ الجِبَالُ کَالعِهنِ

Watakoonu aljibalu kaalAAihni

And the mountains will be like wool

وَلَا یَسَٔلُ حَمِیمٌ حَمِیما

Wala yasalu hameemun hameeman

And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend

یُبَصَّرُونَهُم یَوَدُّ المُجرِمُ لَو یَفتَدِی مِن عَذَابِ یَومِئِذِ بِبَنِیهِ

Yubassaroonahum yawaddu almujrimu law yaftadee min AAathabi yawmiithin bibaneehi

They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children

وَصَحِبَتِهِ وَاَخِیهِ

Wasahibatihi waakheehi

And his wife and his brother

وَفَصِیلَتِهِ الَّتِی تُٔوِیهِ

Wafaseelatihi allatee tuweehi

And his nearest kindred who shelter him

وَمَن فِی الاَرضِ جَمِیعا ثُمَّ یُنجِیهِ

Waman fee alardi jameeAAan thumma yunjeehi

And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him

کَلَّآ اِنَّهَا لَظَی

Kalla innaha latha

No! Indeed, it is the Flame [of Hell]

نَزَّاعَۃ لِّلشَّوَی

NazzaAAatan lilshshawa

A remover of exteriors

تَدعُواْ مَن اَدبَرَ وَتَوَلَّی

TadAAoo man adbara watawalla

It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience]

وَجَمَعَ فَاَوعَیٓ

WajamaAAa faawAAa

And collected [wealth] and hoarded

اِنَّ الاِنسَنَ خُلِقَ هَلُوعًا

Inna alinsana khuliqa halooAAan

Indeed, mankind was created anxious

اِذَا مَسَّهُ الشَّرُّ جَزُوعا

Itha massahu alshsharru jazooAAan

When evil touches him, impatient

وَاِذَا مَسَّهُ الخَیرُ مَنُوعًا

Waitha massahu alkhayru manooAAan

And when good touches him, withholding [of it]

اِلَّا المُصَلِّینَ

Illa almusalleena

Except the observers of prayer

الَّذِینَ هُم عَلَی صَلَاتِهِم دَآئِمُونَ

Allatheena hum AAala salatihim daimoona

Those who are constant in their prayer

وَالَّذِینَ فِیٓ اَموَلِهِم حَقّٞ مَّعلُومٞ

Waallatheena fee amwalihim haqqun maAAloomun

And those within whose wealth is a known right

لِّلسَّآئِلِ وَالمَحرُومِ

Lilssaili waalmahroomi

For the petitioner and the deprived

وَالَّذِینَ یُصَدِّقُونَ بِیَومِ الدِّینِ

Waallatheena yusaddiqoona biyawmi alddeeni

And those who believe in the Day of Recompense

وَالَّذِینَ هُم مِّن عَذَابِ رَبِّهِم مُّشفِقُونَ

Waallatheena hum min AAathabi rabbihim mushfiqoona

And those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord

اِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّهِم غَیرُ مَامُون

Inna AAathaba rabbihim ghayru mamoonin

Indeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe

وَالَّذِینَ هُم لِفُرُوجِهِم حَفِظُونَ

Waallatheena hum lifuroojihim hafithoona

And those who guard their private parts

اِلَّا عَلَیٓ اَزوَجِهِم اَو مَا مَلَکَت اَیمَنُهُم فَاِنَّهُم غَیرُ مَلُومِینَ

Illa AAala azwajihim aw ma malakat aymanuhum fainnahum ghayru maloomeena

Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed

فَمَنِ ابتَغَی وَرَآءَ ذَلِکَ فَاُوْلَٓئِکَ هُمُ العَادُونَ

Famani ibtagha waraa thalika faolaika humu alAAadoona

But whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors

وَالَّذِینَ هُم لِاَمَنَتِهِم وَعَهدِهِم رَعُونَ

Waallatheena hum liamanatihim waAAahdihim raAAoona

And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive

وَالَّذِینَ هُم بِشَهَدَتِهِم قَآئِمُونَ

Waallatheena hum bishahadatihim qaimoona

And those who are in their testimonies upright

وَالَّذِینَ هُم عَلَی صَلَاتِهِم یُحَافِظُونَ

Waallatheena hum AAala salatihim yuhafithoona

And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer

اُوْلَٓئِکَ فِی جَنَّت مُّکرَمُونَ

Olaika fee jannatin mukramoona

They will be in gardens, honored

فَمَالِ الَّذِینَ کَفَرُواْ قِبَلَکَ مُهطِعِینَ

Famali allatheena kafaroo qibalaka muhtiAAeena

So what is [the matter] with those who disbelieve, hastening [from] before you, [O Muhammad]

عَنِ الیَمِینِ وَعَنِ الشِّمَالِ عِزِینَ

AAani alyameeni waAAani alshshimali AAizeena

[To sit] on [your] right and [your] left in separate groups

اَیَطمَعُ کُلُّ امرِیٕ مِّنهُم اَن یُدخَلَ جَنَّۃَ نَعِیم

AyatmaAAu kullu imriin minhum an yudkhala jannata naAAeemin

Does every person among them aspire to enter a garden of pleasure

کَلَّآ اِنَّا خَلَقنَهُم مِّمَّا یَعلَمُونَ

Kalla inna khalaqnahum mimma yaAAlamoona

No! Indeed, We have created them from that which they know

فَلَآ اُقسِمُ بِرَبِّ المَشَرِقِ وَالمَغَرِبِ اِنَّا لَقَدِرُونَ

Fala oqsimu birabbi almashariqi waalmagharibi inna laqadiroona

So I swear by the Lord of [all] risings and settings that indeed We are able

عَلَیٓ اَن نُّبَدِّلَ خَیرا مِّنهُم وَمَا نَحنُ بِمَسبُوقِینَ

AAala an nubaddila khayran minhum wama nahnu bimasbooqeena

To replace them with better than them; and We are not to be outdone

فَذَرهُم یَخُوضُواْ وَیَلعَبُواْ حَتَّی یُلَقُواْ یَومَهُمُ الَّذِی یُوعَدُونَ

Fatharhum yakhoodoo wayalAAaboo hatta yulaqoo yawmahumu allathee yooAAadoona

So leave them to converse vainly and amuse themselves until they meet their Day which they are promised

یَومَ یَخرُجُونَ مِنَ الاَجدَاثِ سِرَاعا کَاَنَّهُم اِلَی نُصُب یُوفِضُونَ

Yawma yakhrujoona mina alajdathi siraAAan kaannahum ila nusubin yoofidoona

The Day they will emerge from the graves rapidly as if they were, toward an erected idol, hastening

خَشِعَۃً اَبصَرُهُم تَرهَقُهُم ذِلَّۃٞ ذَلِکَ الیَومُ الَّذِی کَانُواْ یُوعَدُونَ

KhashiAAatan absaruhum tarhaquhum thillatun thalika alyawmu allathee kanoo yooAAadoona

Their eyes humbled, humiliation will cover them. That is the Day which they had been promised
